Auricular Acupuncture Changing Lives

Andrew Greenberg LAc, MSAc, 中国P站 December 2017 Graduate

Auricular acupuncture is聽the stimulation of acupuncture points聽on the external ear surface for the聽diagnosis and treatment of health聽conditions in other areas of the body.聽The ear holds a microsystem of the聽body, consistent with the brain map聽discoveries of Canadian neuroscientist聽Wilder Penfield. Dr. Penfield found聽that maps of the body exist on the聽surface, or sensory cortex, of the brain.聽This same brain map is also projected聽onto different areas of the body,聽鈥渕icrosystems鈥, and in particular聽precision, onto the ear.

Practitioners all over the world use this therapy to treat pain, dysfunction, addictions and internal disorders with excellent results. Whether used in conjunction with another treatment or by itself, auriculotherapy is often effective when other treatments have failed. Best of all, it is safe, non-invasive and has no known side effects.

One of the great advantages of learning auriculotherapy is the various ways you can use ear therapy to achieve great results.聽 You can use acupuncture needles, e-stim and press tags.聽聽 However, what鈥檚 really exciting is that there are many tools out in the market today that allows an acupuncturist to use auriculotherapy on a patient without the use of needles.聽 The benefits of this is quite exciting.聽 One is that it enhances the effect of your treatment, but beyond this bene铿乼, auriculotherapy also offers the practitioner other advantages including better patient recruiting and retention, broader scope of practice, and enhanced 铿乶ancial rewards.聽 Another benefit is your practice now attracts those patients that have always wanted to try acupuncture but may have been somewhat needle phobic, thus opening up your practice to many many more potential patients.

    1. Hi, Auricular acupuncture is taught in our Master’s of Science in Acupuncture program. You can view our program catalog at

  1. Thank you to Dr. Greenberg for his posting and professional experience to bring attention to the benefits of auricular acupuncture (a broad field covering different schools of practice including: ear acupuncture as a speciality within TCM, Auricular Therapy and Auricular Medicine).

The use of Auricular Medicine to 鈥渋dentify and treat blockages to healing as a new approach to therapy-resistant patients鈥 (as taught in the auricular medicine manual of the same name by Dr. med. Beate Strittmatter), highlights what Dr. Greenberg stated, 鈥渁uriculotherapy is often effective when other treatments have failed.鈥 As Dr. Greenberg suggested, 鈥渢he ear holds a microsystem of the聽body.鈥 In addition to having the map, learning how to palpate autonomic nervous system response through a Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS), helps guide assessment and treatment on that map to precisely identify and address systemic blockages (i.e. from scar tissue, pain memory, toxicity and many other) above and beyond meridian blockages requiring treatment.

Auricular Medicine, which specifically uses VAS, was developed by the late physician Paul Nogier. In a CIAM auricular training in Toronto this May, Paul Nogier鈥檚 former student and colleague, Dr. med. Frank Bahr, a leader in advancing Auricular Medicine in Germany (graduating over 30,000 medical doctors), will present practical demonstrations for clinical application.

The leadership of the 中国P站 in offering auricular acupuncture offers students a strong basis for the continuing education throughout specific fields of auricular acupuncture, whether the work of Dr. Muriel Agnes, Dr. Frank Bahr, Dr. Bryan Frank, Dr. Richard Niemtzow, Dr. Rapha毛l Nogier, Dr. Terry Oleson, Dr. Manfred Reininger, Dr. Nader Soliman, Dr. Beate Strittmatter, and many others.
